Truman State University has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host The Big Read in Kirksville. This program gives communities the opportunity to come together to read, discuss, and celebrate one of 30 selections from U.S. and world literature.
Kirksville will be reading The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. This critically acclaimed book is a look into the lives of soldiers during the Vietnam War.
As part of this event, book discussion groups will be held at a variety of places throughout the community, a Vietnam exhibit will be on display at the Kirksville Arts Center, and classic Vietnam era movies will be shown in the month of March.
The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
